Russian Railways is asking the Kazakh side to reduce tariffs for the transportation of grain, the Russian portal Vedomosti reports. A letter of justification on behalf of the company was sent to Kazakhstan in September this year.

According to the press service of the Russian Railways, in September a letter was sent to the Kazakh side explaining the need to reduce the current tariff. According to the norms of the Eurasian Economic Union, transit transportation through the territories of its member states is carried out "in accordance with the tariff policy of the CIS", where rates are higher than those for domestic transportation by rail. On November 8, this issue was discussed at a closed meeting of Russian Railways managers with deputies of United Russia of the State Duma.

Vice-President of the Russian Grain Union Alexander Korbut believes that in the current conditions, when grain supplies are complicated by sanctions, it is unprofitable to transport products through Kazakhstan, since the neighboring republic receives a “competitive advantage” that allows reselling Russian grain.
