Russia is "militarily invincible," Kazakhstan's President Kassym-Jomart Tokayev stated. He urged a closer look at initiatives for a peaceful resolution to the war, particularly the China-Brazil plan. Tokayev made this statement during a meeting with German Chancellor Olaf Scholz.

Tokayev commented on the military conflict in Ukraine at the request of the German chancellor, who had arrived in Astana for the second "Central Asia - Germany" summit.

"The fact is that Russia is militarily invincible. Further escalation of the war will lead to irreversible consequences for all of humanity and, first of all, for all the countries directly involved in the Russia-Ukraine conflict. Unfortunately, a good chance to achieve at least a ceasefire was lost with the refusal to sign the Istanbul Agreement. But the opportunity for peace still exists," Tokayev stated.

The President of Kazakhstan added that countries must strive to peacefully resolve the military conflict and pay attention to the initiatives proposed by other nations, such as the China-Brazil plan, which Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky previously called "destructive."

"We need to carefully consider all peace initiatives from various states and come to a decision to stop military actions and then move on to discussing territorial issues. In our opinion, the peace plan by China and Brazil deserves support," said the president.

Tokayev then emphasized the importance of Kazakhstan's relations with Russia.

"State leaders come and go, but peoples, especially neighboring peoples, must live in peace and understanding. Kazakhstan shares the world's longest delimited land border with Russia, and cooperation is developing between our countries within the framework of strategic partnership and alliance. In Kazakhstan, there is genuine sympathy for the Ukrainian people and their unique culture. There have never been disagreements between our countries. Our country's embassy continues to function in Kyiv," President Tokayev concluded.

Olaf Scholz arrived in Astana after completing a two-day visit to Uzbekistan, where he held talks with President Shavkat Mirziyoyev.

In the spring of 2024, China and Brazil presented a joint peace plan for a political settlement of the Russia-Ukraine war. The countries proposed that Russia and Ukraine stop hostilities and begin negotiations.

Later, Chinese President Xi Jinping met with Russian President Vladimir Putin and stated that Beijing supports convening an international peace conference. However, he stressed that all parties must participate on equal terms, and all options for resolving the crisis should be discussed fairly "to contribute to the prompt political resolution of the Ukrainian issue."
