Rustam Emomali Holds High-Level Talks in Moscow

Rustam Emomali, Chairman of the Majlisi Milli of the Majlisi Oli of Tajikistan, the country’s potential successor to power and currently the Mayor of Dushanbe, held talks with Russian President Vladimir Putin, Federation Council Chairwoman Valentina Matvienko, and State Duma Speaker Vyacheslav Volodin, Asiaplus.tj reports.

The discussions focused on key issues in bilateral relations, including strengthening strategic partnership, expanding inter-parliamentary dialogue, developing economic, humanitarian, and cultural ties, and addressing labor migration issues.

During the meeting with Vladimir Putin at the Kremlin, the parties discussed allied relations, trade and economic cooperation, as well as projects in culture and security. Rustam Emomali expressed gratitude for Russia’s assistance in implementing social projects in Dushanbe, such as the construction of the Russian Drama Theater named after Mayakovsky and the “Sirius” Center for Gifted Children. The importance of stepping up the work of the Intergovernmental Commission on Trade and Economic Cooperation, particularly in industry, logistics, and investment, was emphasized.

At the meeting with Valentina Matvienko, Rustam Emomali highlighted the importance of the 80th anniversary of Victory as a shared historical milestone that reinforces bilateral relations. The parties discussed educational projects, including Russian language programs, and humanitarian initiatives such as “Russian Teacher Abroad” and the “Memory Train.” Valentina Matvienko underscored the role of interregional cooperation, noting that over 70 Russian regions are engaged in joint projects with Tajikistan.

In talks with State Duma Speaker Vyacheslav Volodin, the sides explored prospects for inter-parliamentary cooperation and expanding collaboration in sectors including economy, construction, transport, energy, telecommunications, agriculture, and migration policy. Special attention was given to workforce training, as well as cultural and youth exchanges.

As part of his visit, Rustam Emomali toured an exhibition dedicated to parliamentary cooperation between the two countries and signed the guest book.
