Agreements totaling $3.8 bln signed in Samarkand

Participants of the Second Economic Forum of Uzbekistan signed agreements on 62 projects. The equivalent amount of the agreements amounted to $3.8 billion, Avesta reports with reference to the press service of the Ministry of Finance of Uzbekistan.

The economic forum was held in the Uzbek city of Samarkand before the summit of the Organization of Turkic Speaking States.

Samarkand agreements relate to such areas as private sector financing, public-private partnerships, budget support, education, energy, integrated development of cities and industry.

One of the most active partners at the forum was the Asian Development Bank. ADB has been involved in several agreements.

In particular, ADB signed a $500 million loan agreement with the Uzbek Ministry of Finance as part of the Enhance Stability Through Active Countercyclical Expenditure project.

“The project will help Uzbekistan improve food security, stabilize prices, support businesses, entrepreneurs, provide social assistance and employment programs,” the forum organizing committee explained.

ADB will also participate in the modernization of Bukhara's heat supply system through a public-private partnership (PPP). ADB signed an agreement for $100 million with the Ministry of Finance, the Ministry of Housing and Public Utilities and the PPP Development Agency of Uzbekistan.

The Ministry of Finance of Uzbekistan signed loan agreements with the ADB and the World Bank - each for $100 million - under the Comprehensive Development of Medium Cities project.

The II Economic Forum of Uzbekistan was held in Samarkand on November 3-4, it was dedicated to the theme "People at the Center of Economic Reforms". The event was attended by over 900 representatives of different countries and about 600 delegates from Uzbekistan.
