Scientific organizations in Turkmenistan are conducting research to develop optimal pathways for the human body to adapt to the country's extremely hot climatic and geographical conditions. This was announced by Myrat Mammedov, Minister of Health and Medical Industry of Turkmenistan, Orient.tm reports.
"In accordance with Turkmenistan's National Strategy on Climate Change, specific measures to adapt to climate change are being implemented. At the Scientific and Clinical Center of Physiology of the Ministry of Health and Medical Industry of Turkmenistan, staff are conducting scientific studies to assess the impact of high temperatures on public health and the body's adaptation to hot climates.
Furthermore, the functioning patterns of both the body as a whole and its systems under the influence of natural, climatic, and industrial factors are being studied in order to develop optimal pathways for the human body to adapt to Turkmenistan's extremely hot climatic and geographical conditions," he said at the international conference "Food Security in a Changing World," which was recently held in Ashgabat.
Mammedov also noted that, in the face of climate change and evolving health risks, it is necessary to adapt agricultural production for the food system of the future.
"Scientific approaches already exist that offer practical solutions based on the interrelationships between climate change, agriculture, and healthcare. One such approach is the 'One Health' concept," he explained.
The minister explained that an intersectoral and interdepartmental organizing committee has been established in Turkmenistan to implement the 'One Health' concept. This approach mobilizes various disciplines and communities at various levels to work together to promote well-being and counter threats to health and ecosystems. Simultaneously, common objectives of providing clean water, energy, and air are being addressed, <...> measures are being taken to combat climate change and promote sustainable development," the minister stated.
