A plenary session of the Shanghai Cooperation Organization (SCO) Media and Think Tank Summit was held in Zhengzhou, China, China’s Xinhua News Agency reports.
Speakers at the session emphasized the importance of upholding the “Shanghai Spirit” and uniting media and academic communities to promote exchanges and cooperation within the SCO framework.
During the session, a congratulatory message from the President of Kyrgyzstan, Sadyr Japarov, was read aloud. In his address, President Japarov highlighted the essential role of media and think tanks in fostering mutual trust and reflecting the shared values and culture of the SCO. He expressed confidence that the summit would inspire new ideas and initiatives aimed at advancing peace and sustainable development.
Under the theme “Advancing the Shanghai Spirit and Building a Beautiful Common Home”, the summit brought together over 400 representatives from approximately 200 media outlets, think tanks, and governmental institutions from SCO member states, observer states, dialogue partners, as well as international and regional organizations.
Mo Gaoyi, Deputy Head of the Publicity Department of the Communist Party of China Central Committee and Director of the State Council Information Office, called on all participants to actively promote the Shanghai Spirit. He noted that, with the upcoming SCO summit in Tianjin, this meeting of media and think tank representatives plays a vital role in building a closer SCO community with a shared future.
Fu Hua, President of Xinhua News Agency, pledged to fully leverage the advantages of media and think tanks to collaborate with all parties toward the SCO’s shared goal of joint development. He emphasized the agency’s commitment to presenting a panoramic and multidimensional narrative of the SCO’s vibrant practices of solidarity and cooperation in the new era, thereby contributing its wisdom and strength to the creation of a tighter-knit SCO community.
Also speaking at the session were Peng Jinghui, Vice President of the Chinese Academy of Social Sciences (CASS), and Liu Ning, Party Secretary of Henan Province.
The summit was jointly organized by Xinhua News Agency, CASS, and the People’s Government of Henan Province, under the guidance of the State Council Information Office of China.
During the summit, participants also released the “Zhengzhou Consensus of the SCO Media and Think Tank Summit,” along with two key analytical reports: “Joint Protection of the Treasures of Human Civilization: China’s Heritage Preservation Practices in the New Era” and “Research on Building a Shared Future Community within the SCO.”
