With the availability of German technologies, Kyrgyzstan could produce green hydrogen, Kyrgyz President Sadyr Japarov said at bilateral talks with German Federal President Frank-Walter Steinmeier, the press service of the President of Kyrgyzstan reported.

Zhaparov became interested in developing trade, economic and technological areas with Germany. Kyrgyzstan has significant renewable energy potential, he said.

"For the Kyrgyz side, Germany's developments and technologies in this area are of great interest. The country is interested in German technologies for the production of green hydrogen, which is the fuel of the future. Kyrgyzstan, having large reserves of water resources, could produce green hydrogen if Germany had advanced technologies," noted the President of Kyrgyzstan.

Japarov also suggested that Germany invest in "green" projects in Kyrgyzstan. He expressed the interest of Kyrgyzstan in the implementation of the German initiative "Green Central Asia". During the meeting, he said that a green economy development program is currently being implemented in Kyrgyzstan and dozens of medium and small hydropower plants are being built.

In addition, Zhaparov offered Germany to exchange Kyrgyzstan's external debt to Germany for environmental projects in the country.

The President of Kyrgyzstan thanked the German side for the conversion of the debt in the amount of €14.9 million and said that the funds are currently being directed to mortgage lending to residents living in the regions of the country, mainly from the least vulnerable social strata.

During the meeting, Zhaparov raised the issue of financial and technical cooperation and asked the German side to support the restoration of Kyrgyzstan in the list of Germany's partner countries for financial and technical cooperation.

President Zhaparov became interested in developing relations in trade, economic and technological fields with Germany.

Following the talks with German President Steinmeier, Zhaparov said that Kyrgyzstan and Germany had identified priority areas for cooperation.

According to him, the priority areas for cooperation with Germany are cooperation in the field of renewable energy sources, green economy, and labor resources. One of the concrete steps to improve cooperation could be an exchange of visits.

Kyrgyzstan hopes that the recently established Kyrgyz-German Development Fund will help attract investment and new technologies.

The President of Germany arrived in Kyrgyzstan as part of an official visit on the evening of June 21 after making trips to the regions of Kazakhstan. In Kyrgyzstan, he plans to visit the Interglas glass factory in the city of Tokmok.

His visit will last 2 days and end on June 23.
