TASHKENT — President of the Republic of Tajikistan Emomali Rahmon has arrived in Uzbekistan on a state visit. The distinguished guest was personally met at Tashkent-Khumo International Airport by Uzbek President Shavkat Mirziyoyev, the state news agency Khovar reports.

The visit is taking place at the invitation of Uzbek President Mirziyoyev and marks a new stage in bilateral relations. The program includes high-level talks, the first meeting of the Supreme Interstate Council, the signing of a package of cooperation documents, an interregional business forum, and cultural events, including Days of Tajikistan Culture.

The leaders will discuss expanding political dialogue, trade, economic, and interregional cooperation, the development of industrial cooperation, and transport connectivity. Particular attention was paid to water and energy security—a strategically important area for both Central Asian countries.

By the end of 2025, trade turnover between Tajikistan and Uzbekistan increased by almost 30%, reaching $912.3 million. Uzbekistan's exports amounted to $683.1 million (industrial products, machinery, mineral and chemical goods), while Tajikistan's exports totaled $229.3 million (ore, coal, electricity, and cotton).

During the visit, the launch of joint projects in energy, transport, and processing industries is planned. The parties also intend to deepen cultural and humanitarian exchanges, strengthening the historical ties between the peoples of the two countries.

The state visit includes a visit to Bukhara, one of the oldest centers of Islamic culture, highlighting the shared cultural and historical heritage of Tajikistan and Uzbekistan.

This is Emomali Rahmon's first state visit to Tashkent since 2018. The previous meeting between the leaders, a state visit, took place in Dushanbe in April 2024. Regular high-level dialogue facilitates the consistent expansion of partnership across all areas—from security to education and tourism.

Experts note that strengthening the Uzbek-Tajik alliance is crucial for regional stability, especially given the transformation of logistics routes and growing interest in the Central Asian East-West Corridor.

Following the visit, the parties are expected to announce the launch of new joint initiatives and sign documents establishing the legal basis for long-term strategic cooperation.
