Tajikistan, which possesses substantial mineral and raw material potential, intends to become one of the suppliers of critical metals to the global market. This was stated by the country’s Minister of Industry and New Technologies, Sherali Kabir, following the Second International Mining and Metallurgical Forum held in Dushanbe, Khovar.tj reports.

According to the minister, 98% of electricity in Tajikistan is generated from renewable sources, while about 93% of the country’s territory consists of mountainous areas rich in mineral resources. These factors create favorable conditions for the development of mining and processing industries.

Kabir noted that the rapid development of digital technologies, the electronics industry, and e-commerce is driving global demand for strategic and rare metals, opening up additional economic opportunities for Tajikistan. In this context, the republic is developing plans to expand mineral extraction and processing, to be implemented in the coming years with the involvement of both domestic and foreign investment.

Official data show that Tajikistan’s proven reserves of lead are estimated at 1.8 million tons, zinc at 4.7 million tons, while silver reserves exceed 100,000 tons, placing the country among the world’s top five holders of silver resources. In addition, projects are underway to build a beneficiation plant and a lithium carbonate production facility, a material widely regarded as a key component of the green economy and high-tech industries.

“With the necessary financial resources and modern technologies, Tajikistan can secure a достойное place among global suppliers of critical metals,” the minister emphasized, adding that the country should be recognized by the international community as a strategically important region in terms of mineral resources.
