Tajikistan Allocated Over $230 Million for Reclamation and Development of Irrigated Lands

Tajikistan is implementing five state programs aimed at improving the condition of reclaimed lands, developing new irrigated areas, and conducting riverbank protection work. This was reported by the Agency for Land Reclamation and Irrigation under the Government of the Republic of Tajikistan, Avesta.tj reports.

The list of priority initiatives includes:

  • "Program for Improving the Condition of Reclaimed Lands of Irrigated Agricultural Lands in the Republic of Tajikistan for 2024–2028";
  • "State Program for Riverbank Protection in the Republic of Tajikistan for 2023–2027";
  • "State Program for the Development of New Irrigated Lands and the Restoration of Lands Withdrawn from Agricultural Use in the Republic of Tajikistan for 2022–2027";
  • "Investment Program for Equipping Pumping Stations of the Agency for Land Reclamation and Irrigation with Modern Energy-Saving Equipment for 2023–2027";
  • "Land Reclamation and Irrigation Development Program for 2024–2028."

The total cost of these programs is 2 billion 241 million somoni (around $230 mln).

The agency noted that in 2025, as part of these initiatives, the condition of reclaimed lands on an area of ​​12,842 hectares was improved. In addition, 1,796 hectares of land previously withdrawn from agricultural use were restored, representing 128% of the planned figure. 6,030,400 somoni were allocated for these purposes.

It was also reported that modern energy-saving equipment was purchased for 28 pumping stations, which will improve water delivery efficiency and reduce energy costs in agriculture.
