Tajikistan allocates $78 mln more for construction of Rogun HPP

The Government of Tajikistan instructed to send additional funds to replenish the authorized capital of OJSC Rogun HPP in the amount of 800 million somoni (about $78 million), Asiaplustj.info reports.

The Government Decree of February 2 states that these funds will be allocated by the Ministry of Finance of Tajikistan from the Stabilization Fund for Economic Development.

“Regulate the payment of additionally allocated funds as part of the expenditure plan of the republican budget for 2023, provided for replenishing the authorized capital of Rogun HPP OJSC,” the Resolution says.

OJSC Rogun HPP was obliged to ensure the timely and targeted use of the allocated funds and submit a report on expenses to the Ministry of Finance of Tajikistan.

In mid-December last year, the government instructed to allocate 150 million somoni at the expense of the Stabilization Fund for Economic Development to replenish the authorized capital of Rogun HPP OJSC.

At the end of 2022, the government of Tajikistan instructed to replenish the authorized capital of JSC Rogun HPP at the expense of the above Fund by 200 million somoni (about $20 million).

In addition, a month earlier, the government received the consent of the parliament to attract funds from the National Bank of the country in the amount of 1 billion somoni to finance the Fuel and Energy Complex.

Later it became known that this money was directed to the completion of the Rogun HPP.

The Government of Tajikistan has been negotiating for a long time to attract investments from international financial organizations to complete the construction of the Rogun HPP.

According to the agency, at present, at least $5 billion will be required for the full implementation of the Rogun project.

At the end of December 2023, President Emamoli Rahman announced in his message to parliament that 3.2 billion somoni (about $315 million) was allocated for construction work on Rogun in 2022.
