The topic of further strengthening Tajik-Iranian relations and current regional and international issues were discussed by the President of Tajikistan, Emomali Rahmon, and the President of the Islamic Republic of Iran, Sayyid Ebrahim Raisi, Avesta reports.
The meeting took place within the framework of the general debates of the 78th session of the United Nations General Assembly in New York.
Both parties expressed satisfaction with the constructive political dialogue and considered it necessary to continue successful relations, especially in the areas of trade and the economy, energy, transportation and transit, tourism, multi-vector cooperation between the regions and provinces of the two countries, increasing air traffic between the two nations, and mutual simplification of visas for their citizens.
It was emphasized that the practical implementation of the "Program of Economic and Trade Cooperation between the two countries until 2030" and the continuation of the effective work of the Joint Intergovernmental Commission would be of special importance for achieving the goals.
The Presidents of the two countries also discussed the cooperation of their nations within international and regional organizations, including the United Nations and its institutions, the Organization for Economic Cooperation, the Shanghai Cooperation Organization, and the Organization of Islamic Cooperation.
Both sides exchanged views on the growing trend of contemporary challenges and threats, such as terrorism, extremism, drug trafficking, transnational organized crime, and cybercrime, which pose serious security problems for their countries.
Regarding the situation in Afghanistan, it was emphasized that Tajikistan and Iran, as neighboring countries, are most interested in the restoration of peace and stability in that country.
The parties also had a fruitful discussion on other mutually interesting issues.
