President of Tajikistan Emomali Rahmon met in Dushanbe with Iran’s Minister of Internal Affairs, Eskandar Momeni. The main topic of discussion was the expansion of bilateral cooperation in the field of security and crime prevention, the press service of the President of Tajikistan reports.
The two sides emphasized that amid increasing geopolitical instability and growing transnational threats - from terrorism and extremism to cybercrime and drug trafficking - close cooperation between law enforcement agencies is becoming especially relevant.
They agreed to intensify the operational exchange of information, joint initiatives, and educational programs.
Particular attention was given to implementing the agreements reached during the recent visit of Iranian President Masoud Pezeshkian to Tajikistan. According to Momeni, this visit opened a "new chapter" in the relations between the two countries and gave additional momentum to joint efforts.
The interior ministers of both countries signed a practical cooperation program for 2025–2029, which includes training, research projects, and technical collaboration.
Momeni emphasized that the security of Iran and Tajikistan is “inextricably linked” and expressed confidence in the continued strengthening of the partnership.
Earlier, the defense ministers of the two republics discussed cooperation in the defense sector.
