On November 12, the Minister of Defense of Tajikistan, Colonel General Emomali Sobirzoda, held talks in Islamabad with General Sahir Shamshad Mirza, Chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff Committee of the Pakistan Armed Forces, Avesta.tj reports.
The meeting marked a new step in the development of defense partnership between the two countries. The sides agreed to expand cooperation in the military and military-technical fields, conduct joint exercises, exchange experience, and organize training programs for military personnel.
The official visit began with a welcoming ceremony in Islamabad, featuring an honor guard, the national anthems of both states, and the introduction of delegations. This ceremonial start reflected the spirit of mutual respect and growing strategic trust between Dushanbe and Islamabad.
During the talks, the parties expressed satisfaction with the peace-oriented policies of President Emomali Rahmon of Tajikistan and Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif of Pakistan, noting that these approaches create favorable conditions for deepening regional cooperation.
Discussions focused on enhancing defense industry collaboration, developing joint training programs, and exchanging expertise in counterterrorism, border security, and peacekeeping operations. The ministers emphasized that closer coordination between Tajikistan and Pakistan will contribute to the stability of South and Central Asia, especially amid ongoing security challenges in the broader region.
Both sides reaffirmed their commitment to maintaining friendly and fraternal relations and to continuing high-level contacts between their defense institutions. The meeting, held in an atmosphere of friendship and mutual understanding, concluded with a shared intention to implement practical steps to strengthen bilateral defense cooperation.
Experts note that the Dushanbe–Islamabad dialogue is becoming an important component of regional security architecture, as both nations share a common interest in ensuring stability, combating extremism, and promoting infrastructure and defense partnerships in the wider Eurasian space.
