The main goal of economic cooperation between Tajikistan and Turkey is to achieve a trade turnover of $1 billion, said the Ambassador of the Republic of Turkey to Tajikistan, Umut Acar, Avesta reports.
Ambassador Acar held a press conference following the visit of the Turkish Foreign Minister Hakan Fidan to Tajikistan on January 10, 2024, and discussed the prospects for Tajik-Turkish relations in 2024.
He emphasized that at the moment, half of the plans have already been fulfilled.
The Turkish Ambassador also highlighted sectors of Tajikistan's economy where Turkish businessmen could invest. For example, the Turkish Cooperation and Coordination Agency (TIKA) has implemented over 100 projects in Tajikistan worth $30 million.
Umut Acar noted that the purpose of the meeting between the Turkish Foreign Minister and Tajik President Emomali Rahmon and Foreign Minister Sirodjidin Muhriddin was not only about the Tajik-Kyrgyz border issue but also included discussions on the security of the Tajik-Afghan border. The parties discussed cooperation in this area, and Turkey expressed its willingness to assist in strengthening the Tajik-Afghan border.
Regarding educational projects, the Turkish Ambassador explained that the allocation of quotas for Tajik citizens to study in Turkish universities depends on the number of applications from Tajik applicants. Admission under the quota will be granted after passing all the necessary exams. He also noted that education in Turkish educational institutions is conducted in both Turkish and English.
The Ambassador also touched upon the organization of educational trips for Tajik journalists to Turkey. The main goal of these trips is to familiarize readers in Tajikistan with various regions and cities of Turkey.
