Tajikistan exported electricity worth around $100 million to neighboring countries in the first nine months of 2024, reports Asiaplus.tj.
In September, when the country introduced limited electricity supply for rural residents, exports amounted to $16.3 million.
According to *Barki Tojik*, electricity is supplied to Uzbekistan only during the summer, while exports to Afghanistan will continue through the autumn-winter season (September to May), but only to maintain infrastructure.
In late September 2024, *Barki Tojik* announced that electricity supply restrictions were introduced across the country starting from September 22.
Rural residents report receiving electricity for 8 to 10 hours a day since September 21 - from 5 to 8 a.m. and from 5 to 10 p.m.
Residents in all regions of the country, except the Gorno-Badakhshan Autonomous Region (GBAO), have complained about the limited power supply. GBAO's energy system operates independently from the national grid and is managed by the private company *Pamir Energy*.
According to statistics, Tajikistan generated 17.2 billion kilowatt-hours of electricity in the first nine months of this year, which is 0.4% more than the same period in 2023. Approximately 95% of the energy was produced by hydroelectric power plants.
