In 2025, Tajikistan's coal industry demonstrated steady growth, with production across 15 deposits exceeding 2.8 million tons—a 10% increase over the previous year. This was announced by the Minister of Industry and New Technologies, Sherali Kabir, reports Asiaplus.tj.
The Minister highlighted a significant surge in exports, which rose by 42% to reach 558,700 tons. The distribution of these exports reveals a heavy regional concentration:
- Uzbekistan: Accounted for almost the entire volume (99.9%).
- Afghanistan: Received approximately 500 tons.
- Revenue: Total export earnings amounted to roughly $6.5 million.
The domestic market also remained highly active, with 2.27 million tons of coal sold within the country. Key consumption figures include:
- 800,000 tons supplied to the Dushanbe CHP-2 power plant.
- 450,000+ tons provided to the general population.
Looking ahead, the Ministry of Industry plans to construct new facilities at the Fon-Yagnob and Nazar-Aylok deposits. To modernize the sector, the government is currently engaged in negotiations with investors from Russia, China, Uzbekistan, and the EU.
