Tajikistan has currently identified 10 priority trade and transit corridors that traverse the country from East to West and from North to South, stated the Minister of Transport of Tajikistan, Azim Ibrohim, speaking at the XV International Economic Forum "Russia – Islamic World: KazanForum 2024," held in the capital of the Republic of Tatarstan (Russian Federation) from May 14 to 19.

The Government of Tajikistan pays special attention to the development of economic and transport multimodal corridors of Tajikistan, connecting Southeast Asian countries with Central Asia, Russia, Iran, Turkey, and other European countries, providing the country with access to seaports, the minister said.

To this end, active work is being carried out to effectively utilize the "Tajikistan – Uzbekistan – Turkmenistan – Iran – Turkey" corridor, which ensures the shortest route from the Chinese border through the territories of Tajikistan and the aforementioned countries, and promotes regional economic integration.

This international multimodal corridor links China with the countries on the "North-South" route, i.e., it connects the Indian Ocean and the Persian Gulf with the Caspian Sea through Iran.

"The 'North-South' route, by promoting increasing interconnectivity of adjacent countries on a regional and global scale, ensures the development of uninterrupted, timely, and efficient movement of goods between them," emphasized Azim Ibrohim. "Tajikistan, realizing the importance of this route, decided to join it in 2004."

The President of Tajikistan stated that the "North-South" route contributes to the expansion of the region's transit potential. To develop trade and economic ties and accelerate the process of integrating national transport systems with the Trans-Caspian International Transport Corridor, ensuring the free movement of people, goods, and services, Azim Ibrohim proposed to development partners and international financial institutions to consider financing priority projects for the development of the country's sectors, especially in the transport and logistics sector, as well as to participate in projects for the construction and modernization of transport and roadside infrastructure, especially on international transport corridors.

According to the minister, in the coming years, based on the adopted State Program for the Development of the Logistics System of Tajikistan for 2023-2028, the country plans to build several logistics complexes of regional and international significance. Investment projects have been prepared for the construction of these facilities with a total amount of $100.613 million.
