Since 2001, Tajikistan has implemented energy projects worth $2.7 billion, said Tajikistan’s Minister of Energy and Water Resources, Daler Zhuma, Sputnik Tajikistan reports.

Zhuma spoke at the regional conference "Prospects for the Development of Renewable Energy Sources in Tajikistan." At the event, he noted that 36 projects in the energy sector have been completed in Tajikistan, with another 18 projects currently underway.

"Since 2001, 36 investment projects have been implemented with the involvement of $2.7 billion, related to the production of new energy capacities, the construction, and reconstruction of other energy facilities," Zhuma said in his speech.

The minister specified that the cost of the projects currently being worked on amounts to $1.5 billion.

Zhuma noted that Tajikistan's National Development Strategy envisions increasing power generating capacities to 10 GW by 2030. The planned volume of electricity exports is 10 billion kWh.

According to the minister, today, 98% of electricity production in Tajikistan is carried out by hydropower plants. This is beneficial from an ecological and financial point of view. At the same time, the industry depends on the volume of river water flow and weather conditions in the context of climate change.

Tajikistan has the highest hydropower potential in Central Asia.
