Tajikistan jointly with Uzbekistan to build a hydroelectric power stations on Zerafshan River

Tajikistan and Uzbekistan have begun the first stage of construction of 2 hydroelectric power stations on the Zeravshan River, Sputnik reports.

The first part of the project involves exploration and survey work, which will last at least 3 months.

The first planned construction of the Yavan hydroelectric power station with a capacity of 140 MW. The cost of its construction will be approximately $282 million, the EDB said in a statement.

In the future, the Fandaryo hydroelectric power station with a capacity of 135 MW and a cost of about $270 million will be built.

To implement the project, a joint venture TaUz Hidro was specially created.

An agreement on the participation of the Uzbek side in the construction and operation of a pair of hydroelectric power stations on the Zeravshan River was reached in 2018.

In January 2020, at the level of working groups, the procedure and conditions for the parties' equity participation in this project were already discussed, and a symbolic start was given in June 2022.
