On November 1, 2024, passengers on flights lasting more than 3.5 hours in Tajikistan can expect hot meals on board.

To enhance the level and quality of passenger service during flights, the issue of providing hot meals on flights to Tajikistan operated by foreign airlines from both distant and neighboring countries has been resolved, according to information from the Civil Aviation Agency of Tajikistan, reports Asiaplus.tj.

'Special attention has been given to airlines operating on international routes, including Russian airlines such as Ural Airlines, S7 (Siberia), Nordwind, UTair, and Yamal, which operate flights to and from Tajikistan. Following a proposal by the Civil Aviation Agency, these airlines have taken into account the flight duration and expressed their readiness to provide passengers with hot meals on board, starting from the autumn-winter season of 2024-2025. With the introduction of this measure, passengers will be able to enjoy enhanced comfort on long-haul flights, which will improve the quality of service in Tajik aviation,' the Agency reports.

Since November 1, foreign airlines have already been providing passengers with hot meals on board, reports Asiaplus.tj.

The department instructed the inspection services of Tajikistan’s international airports to monitor the implementation of the new requirements and regularly report on the results.

According to existing standards, airlines are required to provide meals depending on the flight duration:

Somon Air promises to start serving passengers hot meals from early March:
- Up to 3 hours – cold breakfast or dinner (depending on the time of day), as well as beverages.

- From 3 to 6 hours – light breakfast or dinner for economy-class passengers.

- More than 6 hours – multiple meals (several meals throughout the flight).

From 6:00 to 22:00, passengers should receive full meals – breakfast, lunch, or dinner depending on the time of day. During night hours (from 22:00 to 6:00), light snacks are allowed.

Thus, if a flight lasts more than 3 hours, the airline is obligated to provide passengers with hot meals, and those companies that do not comply with the recommendations are violating consumer rights.
