Tajikistan has announced its intention to purchase 100,000 tons of meat from Pakistan, a deal that may exceed $50 million in trade value and become one of the most significant agricultural cooperation projects between the two countries. The information was reported in Islamabad following a meeting between Pakistan’s Minister for National Food Security Rana Tanveer Hussain and Tajikistan’s Ambassador Yusuf Sharifzada, according to brecorder.com.
The Tajik ambassador emphasized Dushanbe’s strong interest in expanding imports of agricultural products from Pakistan, with a particular focus on meat and livestock goods. Following the talks, both sides confirmed that an official agreement on large-scale meat exports will be signed in the near future. Pakistan reaffirmed its readiness to fully meet Tajikistan’s needs and ensure stable supplies.
During the meeting, officials also noted that current trade volumes remain far below potential. Pakistan exports rice, citrus fruits, and mangoes to Tajikistan, but in very limited quantities despite substantial production capacity. Both parties stressed the need to remove technical and logistical barriers that hinder trade growth.
The two countries agreed to intensify work on an expanded agricultural cooperation roadmap, which includes increasing trade in fresh fruits, vegetables, meat, and key crops; promoting joint research; improving compliance with international standards; creating pest-free production zones; and strengthening professional training. They also highlighted the importance of scientific information exchange and innovation to ensure sustainable agricultural development.
