The poverty level in Tajikistan has decreased from 83% in 1999 to 21.2% by 2023, stated Tajik President Emomali Rahmon.

In his address on the occasion of the 33rd anniversary of Tajikistan’s independence, President Rahmon noted that the government has been tasked with reducing the poverty rate to 10% within the next seven years, Asiaplus.tj reports.

To achieve this goal, efforts have been directed towards implementing four strategic objectives: ensuring energy independence, overcoming transport isolation, achieving food security, and accelerating industrialization.

"Over the years of independence, more than 2,200 kilometers of roads, dozens of kilometers of tunnels, and hundreds of bridges have been built, which has allowed the country to break free from transport isolation and become an important transit hub," Emomali Rahmon emphasized, speaking on Independence Day in Dushanbe.

He stressed that during the years of sovereignty, significant work has been done in the country to develop infrastructure. As part of the implementation of national strategic goals aimed at overcoming transport isolation, Tajikistan has improved its transport infrastructure, building dozens of tunnels and hundreds of bridges that meet international standards.

These achievements have helped connect different regions of the country, improve transport links, and turn Tajikistan into an important transit hub in Central Asia. The president noted that, thanks to these efforts, the country has emerged from its communication deadlock and now plays a key role in regional and international trade.
