Tajikistan’s President Emomali Rahmon has proposed introducing criminal liability for the illegal use of electricity and non-payment of electricity bills, Asiaplus.tj reports.
According to the Presidential Press Service, at the March 27 government meeting, Rahmon expressed concern over the irrational use of electricity and excessive losses during the 2024-2025 autumn-winter season.
“He issued specific instructions to the responsible officials to eliminate existing serious shortcomings and prevent such situations in the future,” the statement said.
The meeting also addressed the timely preparation of the economic and social sectors to ensure uninterrupted and efficient operations during the 2025-2026 autumn-winter season.
Rahmon instructed officials to approve an action plan for this goal and to form a national headquarters composed of top ministry and agency leaders to oversee regular implementation. Ministries, agencies, and local authorities were tasked with submitting progress reports within set deadlines.
Additionally, the government discussed and approved the 2025-2029 Medium-Term Development Program for Tajikistan’s Customs Authorities and the 2025-2029 Program for the Rehabilitation, Reintegration, and Social Adaptation of Prisoners Convicted of Extremism, Terrorism, and Participation in Armed Conflicts Abroad. A number of legislative bills were also endorsed.
