The expansion of Tajikistan’s hydropower potential will make an important contribution to promoting “green integration” within the Shanghai Cooperation Organisation, Tajik Prime Minister Kokhir Rasulzoda said, according to Sputnik Tajikistan.

Speaking at the SCO Council of Heads of Government meeting in Moscow, he emphasized that energy cooperation remains one of the key areas for the entire region. Tajikistan, Rasulzoda noted, intends to accelerate the modernization of existing hydropower plants and begin building new facilities to increase clean energy production.

Rasulzoda stated that such projects could lay the foundation for long-term green development and strengthen the energy resilience of SCO member states.

The prime minister also recalled that more than two-thirds of Tajikistan’s foreign trade is with SCO countries, and this figure continues to grow steadily. Despite external challenges, the country’s economy maintains positive momentum, with growth in 2025 projected at 8.2%.

Among the priority areas of cooperation within the organization, he highlighted the mining, textile and food industries, the innovation sector, green technologies and the strengthening of food security. Rasulzoda concluded by stressing the importance of the practical implementation of the SCO’s key strategic documents, including the economic development program through 2030.
