Tajikistan significantly increased its import of petroleum products

Imports of Russian oil products and liquefied gas to Tajikistan within the indicative balance in the first half of 2024 amounted to 524.2 thousand tons, the Ministry of Energy and Water Resources of Tajikistan reports.

In particular:

- 236.6 thousand tons of gasoline;

- 223.2 thousand tons of diesel fuel;

- 22.7 thousand tons of jet fuel;

- 62 thousand tons of fuel oil;

- 27.9 thousand tons of bitumen;

- 5.4 thousand tons of lubricants;

- 8.2 thousand tons of liquefied gas.

The Ministry of Energy of Tajikistan notes that imports of Russian fuels and lubricants increased by 14.3% (by 65.6 thousand tons) compared to the same period last year, which is 54% of the indicative balance.

Since 2013, Tajikistan has been receiving Russian fuel and lubricants on a preferential basis.

The Republic annually provides Russia with data on the required volume of petroleum products before the beginning of September, which are exempt from export customs duties to the Russian side the following year.

The competent authorities of the two countries agree on the volumes of domestic consumption in Tajikistan for the following year and sign indicative balances before October 1.

The volume requested for 2024, which was agreed upon by the parties at the end of last year, is over 970 thousand tons.

Meanwhile, in general, according to the Ministry of Energy, Tajikistan imported over 783.8 thousand tons of petroleum products and liquefied gas in the first six months of this year, which is 10.3% more than in the same period of 2023.

In the first half of this year, Tajikistan also received 156.5 million tons of cubic meters of natural gas from Uzbekistan. This is 57.6 million cubic meters more than in the same period last year.
