DUSHANBE - In Tajikistan, authorities are launching a pilot mechanism to monitor transfers between individuals' e-wallets to identify individuals conducting unregistered entrepreneurial activity, Ozodi.tj reports.

According to the new procedure approved by the Agency for Innovation and Digital Technologies under the President of Tajikistan, individual transfers between e-wallets may be recognized as commercial transactions. In this case, the funds received will be considered income and subject to taxation.

Particular attention will be paid to transactions in which a single user receives more than 10 payments from different individuals within 24 hours. This data will be automatically sent to tax authorities for verification and possible registration of the recipient as an individual entrepreneur.

Furthermore, monitoring will also affect transfers marked as non-commercial. If a single e-wallet receives more than 80 transfers from different senders in a month, tax authorities will conduct an additional review. If regular commercial activity is confirmed, the recipient will be registered as an entrepreneur electronically.

The audit must be completed within 10 days. Once registered, tax can be levied on all receipts to the e-wallet, regardless of the purpose of individual transfers.

The new procedure was signed on April 1 and registered with the Ministry of Justice on April 16. Authorities also ordered an information campaign to explain the new system to the public.
