The Ministry of Economic Development and Trade of Tajikistan and the German Development Bank (KfW) signed a grant agreement for 11 million euros for the construction of a tuberculosis hospital in the city of Kulyab in the Khatlon region, Asiaplus.tj reports.
The agreement was signed by the Minister of Economic Development and Trade of Tajikistan Zavki Zavkizoda and the head of the KfW regional office in Central Asia Andreas Schneider. The project is being implemented as part of the Tuberculosis Control Program in Tajikistan, Phase VI.
The funds were allocated under the financial cooperation agreement between the governments of the two countries, signed in 2020.
In the past eight years, 36,258 cases of tuberculosis have been registered in Tajikistan. Of these, 19,811 are men, 14,447 are women, and 3,795 are children.
Since 2016, in accordance with amendments to the Civil Procedure Code of the country, patients with various forms of tuberculosis in Tajikistan can be treated forcibly. If a tuberculosis patient who poses a danger to others refuses treatment, they can be sent for compulsory diagnosis and hospitalization through a court order.
