Tajikistan plans to establish its own logistics center at Iran’s Chabahar Port with the participation of domestic entrepreneurs. The announcement was made during the 17th meeting of the Tajik-Iranian Joint Commission on Economic, Trade, and Scientific-Technical Cooperation, held on May 5–6 in Shiraz, Avesta.tj reports.

A delegation from the Ministry of Transport, led by Deputy Minister Shoista Saidmurodzoda, visited the Islamic Republic of Iran to explore the potential of Chabahar Port, which is strategically located on the shores of the Gulf of Oman and the Indian Ocean.

During the visit, the Tajik delegation held talks with representatives of Iran’s Ministry of Roads and Urban Development, the Ports and Maritime Organization, and the administration of the Chabahar Free Trade and Industrial Zone.

The two sides agreed that Tajikistan will develop a project proposal for the construction of the logistics center and submit it to the Iranian side in the first half of 2025. If approved, Iran will draft a cooperation agreement within a month, offering preferential terms to Tajikistan.

According to the Ministry of Transport of Tajikistan, the establishment of the logistics center in Chabahar will provide the country with direct access to the Indian Ocean as part of the international multimodal transport corridor "China–Tajikistan–Uzbekistan–Turkmenistan–Iran–Turkey–Europe." This strategic project is expected to create new opportunities for diversifying the national economy and expanding trade relations with regions in Asia, Oceania, the Persian Gulf, and East Africa.

The idea of using Iran’s Chabahar and Bandar Abbas ports was first discussed during the official visit of President Emomali Rahmon to Iran in May 2022. In November 2023, Tajikistan and Iran signed a memorandum of cooperation on cargo transit through Chabahar, followed by the approval of a detailed cooperation program between the Tajik Ministry of Transport and Iran’s Ports and Maritime Organization in January 2025.
