In the first half of 2024, Tajikistan imported goods and products worth over $3.4 billion, while exports amounted to about $1 billion, according to the country's statistical agency, Asiaplus.tj reports.

As a result, the trade balance was negative, amounting to $2.4 billion.

The increase in imports was primarily due to the unprecedented purchase of precious metals for the country, totaling $343 million.

In the structure of Tajikistan's imports, a relatively high share is held by machinery and equipment ($378 million), vehicles ($327 million), and base metals ($316 million).

About 75% of exports consisted of mineral products (electricity, cement, coal, ores, and concentrates) and metals, including precious metals, meaning raw materials.
In the first half of this year, the republic traded with 106 countries worldwide. The country's main trading partners were Russia ($968 million), China ($877 million), Kazakhstan ($669 million), and Switzerland ($640 million).
