During the first half of 2023, approximately 87,000 Tajikistan citizens obtained Russian citizenship, which is 13,000 more than the previous year, according to the official statistics from the Russian Ministry of Internal Affairs, as reported by Asiainfotj.info.
In total, during January to June, over 205,000 foreigners acquired Russian citizenship, which is 382,000 less than the same period in 2022.
Tajikistan citizens lead in obtaining Russian citizenship, followed by citizens of Ukraine in second place with 39,000 and Armenia in third place with almost 18,000.

Furthermore, 46,479 Tajikistan citizens have temporary residence permits, which is the first step towards acquiring Russian citizenship.
According to official information, the number of Tajikistan citizens desiring to obtain Russian citizenship has been increasing over the past three years. In 2020, more than 63,000 Tajikistan citizens obtained Russian citizenship, which increased to over 103,000 in 2021, and further increased to over 173,000 people in 2022.
