Tashkent has become the first city in the Commonwealth to be designated as the Youth Capital of the CIS, noted CIS Secretary General Sergei Lebedev in a greeting addressed to the organizers and participants of the solemn ceremony. This was reported by Sputnik Uzbekistan.

According to him, this choice is entirely deserved: nearly half of the population of the capital of Uzbekistan is under 30 years old.

"The city has all the opportunities for quality education, recreation, sports activities, creative expression, work, and meaningful engagement for young people. Tashkent has significant and universally applicable experience in working with youth, interesting public initiatives, and a vibrant cultural life," emphasized the CIS Secretary General.

He reminded that Tashkent has repeatedly hosted large-scale international youth events and has offered numerous joyful encounters and discoveries to tourists.

At the same time, Sergei Lebedev expressed deep respect for the actions of the leadership of Uzbekistan and its capital aimed at increasing the role of young citizens in public life, their acquisition of new skills, and advanced knowledge for the accelerated development of their country.

The message also notes that every year, cooperation among CIS states in the cultural and humanitarian sphere is improving, and new projects and programs are emerging.

One such project aimed at uniting the efforts of CIS countries in working with youth, exchanging experience in youth development issues, and enhancing international youth cooperation is the "Youth Capital of the CIS" project.

Sergei Lebedev also added that an important part of the upcoming days in Tashkent will be the Youth Forum and the meeting of the Youth Affairs Council.

He expressed confidence that these events will make a significant contribution to the development of humanitarian cooperation among CIS member states, contribute to the improvement of mechanisms for working with youth, and enhance cooperation between public associations of CIS countries.
