Kazakhstan has not yet received official proposals to create a "triple gas union" with Russia and Uzbekistan, Prime Minister Alikhan Smailov said, informburo.kz reports.

In Kazakhstan, “at the moment, no official proposals for the creation of a tripartite gas union have been received. Accordingly, when we receive it, then we will consider it,” Smailov said.

At the same time, he said that at the moment, negotiations are underway between Moscow and Astana on cooperation in the gas sector. Another round of negotiations with Gazprom is scheduled for the near future, Smailov added.

The topic of creating a tripartite gas union was first discussed in November 2022 at a meeting of the presidents of Russia and Kazakhstan. The purpose of the agreement should be to coordinate actions during the transportation of Russian gas through the territories of Kazakhstan and Uzbekistan, Ruslan Zheldibay, the press secretary of the leader of Kazakhstan, explained at the time.
