President Sadyr Zhaparov announced during the third People's Kurultai, held on December 21 in Bishkek, that there will soon be no uranium tailing dumps in Kyrgyzstan. This was reported by the press service of the Kyrgyz Ministry of Emergency Situations (MES).

Summing up the Kurultai, Zhaparov addressed questions from delegates, focusing on the issue of uranium waste in the village of Min-Kush in Jumgal District on North oc country. The President noted that the MES, in collaboration with the Russian state corporation Rosatom, is actively working on the reclamation of tailing dumps.

"The saddest part is that during the Soviet era, tailing dumps were located along riverbanks and headwaters, whose water was used by the population. In the near future, there will be no uranium tailing dumps in Kyrgyzstan," Zhaparov emphasized.

Minister of Emergency Situations Boobek Azhikeyev specified that the work in Min-Kush is expected to be completed by April next year. Russia has allocated 2.1 billion rubles for this purpose.

Reclamation of tailing dumps in Mailuu-Suu is also ongoing, with €23 million allocated for the project. Work is being carried out at 16 sites: 80% of the work has been completed at two sites, and four others are being prepared for transportation to safe locations.
