The upcoming referendum on October 6 regarding the construction of a nuclear power plant (NPP) in Kazakhstan will reflect significant changes in the country and demonstrate the principles of a "listening state," stated President of Kazakhstan Kassym-Jomart Tokayev, reports Sputnik Kazakhstan.
"In order not to be left behind in global progress, we must utilize our competitive advantages. If citizens vote 'yes,' this project will become the largest in the history of independent Kazakhstan," said Tokayev.
He noted that the people will decide the future of nuclear energy in the country through a nationwide vote. According to the president, this event will be historic, regardless of the referendum's outcome.
Tokayev emphasized that the construction of the nuclear power plant is not just a long-term project, but also a key to strengthening the country’s energy independence. He is confident that this initiative will stimulate the development of various sectors of the economy, science, and education, as well as contribute to the formation of a qualified body of engineers and specialists.
It is noted that this NPP will significantly impact the future of the country, ensuring sustainable progress for many decades.
