The trade turnover between Turkmenistan and China increased by 12.3% in the first half of 2023, compared to the same period in 2022. The total volume of mutual trade between the countries reached around $5.55 billion,Orient.tm reports, citing the General Customs Administration of China.

The trade balance was significantly in favor of Turkmenistan's exports, which amounted to $5.07 billion during the reporting period. Natural gas played a major role in this, being the primary product exported to China. The cost of gas supplies was estimated at $5.05 billion.

In return, Turkmenistan purchased Chinese goods worth $476 million. Beijing is considered one of the key trading partners for Ashgabat, according to macroeconomic indicators.

Turkmenistan supplies gas to China through the international gas pipeline "Turkmenistan-China," which passes through the territories of Uzbekistan and Kazakhstan. Currently, the construction of a new branch of the gas pipeline, known as "Line D," is in progress. This branch will pass through Uzbekistan, Kyrgyzstan, and Tajikistan, increasing the supply of Turkmen gas to the Chinese market.
