Nurlanbek Turgunbek uulu, Speaker of the Jogorku Kenesh (Parliament) of Kyrgyzstan, received a delegation from the National Assembly of the Republic of Korea led by Han Jeong Ae, the press service of the Kyrgyz Parliament reported.
The sides discussed strengthening political, economic, and cultural ties, as well as developing interparliamentary cooperation. The Speaker noted that the Republic of Korea is one of Kyrgyzstan’s key partners in the Asia-Pacific region, highlighting the growth in bilateral trade and active parliamentary interaction.
He also emphasized that bilateral trade volumes between the two countries have reached record levels in recent years and stressed the importance of further expanding this potential.
According to South Korea’s Customs Service, trade between Kyrgyzstan and South Korea amounted to $1.1293 billion from January to May 2025.
The Speaker drew attention to the significance of the Asian Interparliamentary Consultative Council on Water Resources meeting held in Bishkek, underscoring the need to develop this platform to implement joint initiatives on environmental and water resource issues.
He also expressed interest in joint projects in infrastructure, digitalization, mining, and textiles, calling for active work within the Kyrgyz-Korean intergovernmental commission.
Han Jeong Ae thanked the Kyrgyz side for their support and expressed readiness to deepen cooperation not only on environmental issues but also on economic matters.
The Korean delegation of the National Assembly arrived in Kyrgyzstan to participate in the Second Roundtable on Climate and Water Issues in Asia.
