Türkiye to construct a large power plant in Turkmenistan

The Turkish company "Calik Enerji" intends to build a power plant with a capacity of about 1.6 GW in Turkmenbashi. Ankara has signed a contract with "TurkmenEnergo" for the construction of a combined cycle power plant in the Balkanabat district of Turkmenbashi, Eurasia Today reports.

The construction of the large energy facility will last for 40 months, with construction costs amounting to $586 million.

Earlier, on October 28, 2023, the Turkmen leader Serdar Berdimuhamedow signed a Resolution authorizing Türkmenenergo to enter into a contract with the Turkish company Çalik Enerji for the construction of a power plant with a capacity of 1574 MW in Turkmenbashi.

According to the document, the facility is expected to be commissioned in May 2027.

Economic relations between Turkmenistan and Turkiye in 2023:

In 2023, Turkish companies implemented 7 projects in Turkmenistan worth $3.2 billion.

Overall, more than 20 projects worth $4.4 billion are being implemented in the local market with their participation.

Prospects for the relationship between the two countries:

Turkmenistan and Turkiye intend to increase their trade turnover to $5 billion. The countries plan to enhance cooperation in the fields of energy, transportation, construction, and agriculture.

In 2023, President of Turkmenistan Serdar Berdimuhamedow made his first official visit to Turkiye.
