United States to create a center in the field of social protection in Uzbekistan

Columbia University in the United States will establish a Center for Community Strengthening and Social Well-Being in Uzbekistan, Gazeta.uz reports.

The government of Uzbekistan has approved a resolution to establish such a center. The center will be created with the founding of the National Social Protection Agency of Uzbekistan and Columbia University in the United States.

"Approve the proposal to create a Center for Community Strengthening and Development of Social Welfare under the auspices of the Agency and the Columbia University School of Social Work," the resolution states.

The American center will provide retraining and advanced training for personnel in the social protection field and offer scientific and methodological support to institutions in this area. Training and research will be conducted in two languages: the national language and English.

The center's tasks include researching and developing proposals to address problems in social protection and mental health, implementing an academic system in social work according to international standards, developing and implementing programs in the social sphere, introducing a professional social work system, and developing scientific recommendations for organizing social services for the population.

It is noted that some professors and instructors for the center will be recruited from the staff of the Columbia University School of Social Work.
