President of Turkmenistan, Serdar Berdymukhamedov, proposed convening a major international forum on food security in his speech at the plenary session of the 78th session of the United Nations General Assembly in New York, as reported by the Turkmenistan State News Agency (TDH).

The Turkmen President emphasized that one of Turkmenistan's key priorities in implementing the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) is to provide maximum support to the United Nations in addressing food-related issues.

He noted that the COVID-19 pandemic, along with other adverse factors, has exposed the vulnerability of states where this problem remains unresolved, and where the population does not have access to adequate nutrition.

It is essential to demonstrate unity, principled approaches, and determination in addressing issues related to states' and regions' access to food resources and ensuring adequate nutrition, which is an inalienable right of every individual and a key factor in health and normal physical development, especially for children, Berdymukhamedov emphasized.

The President of Turkmenistan stressed the need for breakthrough solutions and new approaches that overcome political, ideological, and situational barriers.

"Based on this, Turkmenistan proposes the initiative to convene, under the auspices of the UN, in cooperation with the World Food Programme, the World Health Organization, and the UN Children's Fund, a major international forum on food security," Berdymukhamedov declared.

He also expressed readiness to provide the necessary conditions for holding such an event in the capital of Turkmenistan at agreed-upon dates.
