At the Seventh Consultative Meeting of Central Asian Heads of State in Tashkent, Turkmen President Serdar Berdimuhamedov presented a comprehensive strategy to transform the region into a key geo-economic hub of Eurasia, Orient.tm reports.
He identified four priority areas: advancing the “East–West” and “North–South” transport corridors, building a unified regional power grid, deepening industrial cooperation, and strengthening coordinated environmental diplomacy.
Berdimuhamedov emphasized that the shifting center of global economic and investment activity toward Asia and the Middle East is elevating Central Asia’s transit importance. He urged regional states to jointly develop a modern, resilient logistics infrastructure capable of reliably connecting continents.
In the energy sector, the president proposed shifting focus from pipeline-based projects to integrated electricity networks as the foundation of long-term energy security and sustainability. Turkmenistan expressed readiness to explore joint initiatives on power generation, transmission, and consumption.
The president also called for stronger industrial and trade integration - through cooperative value chains in manufacturing and agribusiness, expanded cross-border trade, and greater engagement of the private sector.
On environmental issues, Berdimuhamedov advocated for a unified Central Asian diplomatic stance within the United Nations, particularly on shared challenges such as water resource management, desertification, and the restoration of the Aral Sea. He stressed that cooperation must be guided by equality, mutual respect, and solidarity.
Concluding his address, President Berdimuhamedov affirmed Turkmenistan’s commitment - during its upcoming chairmanship of the Consultative Meeting - to strengthening regional unity and attracting major foreign investment for large-scale international projects.
