Turkmenistan and Uzbekistan are enhancing interregional cooperation. In 2022, the first interregional forum was held in Bukhara, followed by an exhibition of Turkmen goods in Tashkent in July this year. Currently, a national exhibition of Uzbek goods has been organized in Turkmenabat, reports Turkmenistan.gov.tm.

As part of the event, the second Turkmen-Uzbek interregional forum was held, featuring the participation of leaders from trade, financial structures, regional administrations, and private sector representatives from both countries.

Forum participants emphasized the steady growth of trade turnover between the two nations. Cooperation is also strengthening in the agricultural sector, as well as in the chemical, textile, and food industries, the production of construction materials, and in the transport, logistics, and tourism sectors.

To fully realize the potential of interstate partnerships, joint Trade Houses have been opened in Ashgabat and Tashkent. Additionally, construction of a Turkmen-Uzbek Border Trade Center at the Dashoguz-Shavat checkpoint is ongoing. This center is expected to simplify trade operations, boost socio-cultural interactions, and positively impact the economic growth dynamics of the regions.

In turn, the expansion of border trade will spur the development of adjacent territories in both countries. The construction of new and modernization of existing highways, railways, warehouses, and other infrastructure facilities are strengthening the economies of the Lebap and Dashoguz provinces of Turkmenistan, as well as the Bukhara and Khorezm regions of the Republic of Uzbekistan. Overall, the creation of border trade zones opens broad opportunities for the activation of small and medium-sized businesses.
