The strategic role of the International Seaport of Turkmenbashi as a key maritime hub for Central Asia, facilitating the connection between Europe and the region, is been highlighted by Deputy Chairman of the Turkmenhovayollary Agency, Seyitguly Bayseyidov. He made these remarks during an Investors Forum in Brussels, the online publication "Business Turkmenistan" reported.
The development of the Europe-Caucasus-Asia International Transport Corridor (TRACECA) significantly elevated Turkmenistan's maritime transport sector. With the advancement of TRACECA, the International Seaport of Turkmenbashi has gained new opportunities and attractiveness, contributing to economic growth and increased trade efficiency, added Bayseyidov.
Bayseyidov emphasized that the International Seaport of Turkmenbashi boasts the most modern infrastructure, with the government investing $1.5 billion. Equipped with state-of-the-art terminals, the seaport can handle 17 million tons of cargo, ensuring efficient cargo processing and logistics services through terminals such as general cargo, bulk cargo, container, Ro-Ro, passenger, and a terminal for polypropylene and other chemicals.
He also noted that the International Seaport of Turkmenbashi is implementing environmentally friendly facilities and utilizing "green" technologies, earning recognition with the "Green Port" certificate awarded by EcoPort Sustainable Logistic Chain with the support of the Organization for Security and Co-operation in Europe (OSCE) in 2023.
Bayseyidov shared plans for the construction of various types of vessels, including dry cargo and universal ferries specialized for transporting railway and automotive transport. This year, the decision was made to build five vessels of different types, including three general-purpose cargo ships and two Ro-Ro type ships.
The Deputy Chairman emphasized that the Turkmenhovayollary Agency and the International Seaport of Turkmenbashi are open to partnerships that contribute to the economic prosperity of the entire region. They invite investors to participate in transforming the seaport into a regional trade hub, offering numerous opportunities for investment in shipbuilding and infrastructure.
