The state corporation "Turkmenenergo" and the Afghan company DABS signed a joint protocol for the transmission of electricity to the Nur-al-Jihad substation in Herat province in Afghanistan. The Turkmen side was represented by officials of the technical department and international projects, the Afghan side was represented by the general director of the company, Orient.tm reports.
The signing of the protocol was preceded by bilateral negotiations between the Turkmen delegation and the leading energy company of Afghanistan. Earlier, Afghan officials said that the implementation of the project for the supply of Turkmen electricity will solve the problems of the northwestern province of Afghanistan, the press service of DABS reports.
Bilateral technical consultations ended with a complete study of financing issues, as well as determining the start date of the project, security measures and insurance.
Given the fact that Herat is one of the main commercial and industrial centers of Afghanistan, greater access to electricity for local producers will diversify industries and attract attention to the region from investors.
Ashgabat and Kabul are currently aiming to double their electricity supplies from 110 kV to 220 kV. Afghanistan is considered one of the long-standing importers of Turkmen energy resources.
