High-level representatives from Turkmenistan and Afghanistan met in Kabul to discuss expanding bilateral cooperation in the energy sector, reports Turkmenportal.tm.
Key topics included the transfer of 1,000 MW of electricity from Turkmenistan to Kabul, acceleration of the TAP-500 energy bridge project, which will deliver Turkmen electricity to Pakistan and Afghanistan, and collaboration on the TAPI project (Turkmenistan–Afghanistan–Pakistan–India).
The negotiations involved Turkmenistan’s Minister of Energy Annageldi Saparov, Head of International Energy Projects Murad Artykov, and Afghanistan’s Minister of Energy and Water Resources Abdullo Latif Mansur. Turkmen Ambassador Khoja Ovezov also attended.
During the meeting, Minister Saparov expressed condolences over the recent earthquake in eastern Afghanistan and reaffirmed Turkmenistan’s full commitment to advancing agreed energy projects, noting that preparatory work on the international TAP electricity transmission project is progressing successfully.
Afghan Minister Mansur, in turn, emphasized his country’s commitment to implementing joint energy development projects and interest in strengthening partnership with Turkmenistan, according to AVA agency.
