On the sidelines of the 69th Regular Session of the IAEA General Conference in Vienna, Deputy Minister of Health and Medical Industry of Turkmenistan Azat Ovezov met with IAEA Deputy Director General Liu Hua, Turkmenportal.com reports.

According to Turkmenistan’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs, the two officials reviewed key areas of collaboration under the IAEA’s Technical Cooperation Programme. Discussions focused on advancing nuclear medicine, strengthening national infrastructure for the peaceful use of nuclear energy, improving radioactive waste management, and expanding Turkmenistan’s participation in current and future IAEA technical projects.

A central point of the meeting was the recent visit of the imPACT Review Mission, jointly organized by the IAEA and the World Health Organization (WHO). Conducted the previous week, the mission evaluated Turkmenistan’s national cancer control programs. The team commended the country’s progress in oncology care and identified priority areas for future cooperation — including capacity building, equipment modernization, and enhanced diagnostic protocols.

The constructive dialogue signals Turkmenistan’s growing engagement with global nuclear health initiatives and its commitment to leveraging atomic technology to improve public health outcomes.
