ASHGABAT – At the initiative of the Pakistani side, a telephone conversation took place between President of Turkmenistan Serdar Berdimuhamedov and Prime Minister of the Islamic Republic of Pakistan Muhammad Shehbaz Sharif. The talks, timed to coincide with celebrations of International Nowruz Day and the beginning of the holy month of Ramadan, were held in a friendly and trusting atmosphere, Orient.tm reports.

The interlocutors warmly congratulated each other and the peoples of both countries on the shared regional holidays, which form an integral part of the rich cultural heritage of Turkmenistan and Pakistan.

Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif conveyed sincere greetings from President of Pakistan Asif Ali Zardari and extended special congratulations to the National Leader of the Turkmen people, Chairman of the People's Council Gurbanguly Berdimuhamedov. In turn, the head of Turkmenistan reciprocated with best wishes to the leadership and people of the friendly nation.

Strengthening ties with Islamabad remains a consistent priority vector of Ashgabat's foreign policy strategy. President Serdar Berdimuhamedov emphasized that political and diplomatic relations are steadily being enriched with new substance.

A vivid confirmation of this trend was Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif's visit to Ashgabat in December 2025 to participate in the International Forum dedicated to the Year of Peace and Trust. The Prime Minister recalled the visit fondly, noting the high significance of Turkmenistan's peacebuilding initiatives for ensuring global stability.

During the conversation, both sides noted the dynamic development of cooperation across the full spectrum—from cultural and humanitarian exchanges to strategic sectors such as energy and transport.

Key areas of interaction include:

  • Diversification of trade and economic ties;
  • Development of energy infrastructure and cross-border projects;
  • Expansion of transport and logistics corridors;
  • Deepening of cultural and humanitarian exchange.

The Pakistani side reaffirmed its readiness to make every effort toward the practical implementation of joint initiatives and the strengthening of mutually beneficial partnership.
