The Head of the Halk Maslahaty (People's Council) of Turkmenistan, Gurbanguly Berdimuhamedov, discussed with the President of Tajikistan, Emomali Rahmon, the intensification of cooperation in creating a transportation route to the shores of the Caspian Sea. This was reported by the official newspaper "Neutral Turkmenistan" following Berdimuhamedov's visit to Dushanbe.

During the negotiations, the transportation sector was identified among the priority areas of partnership between the two countries. According to Berdimuhamedov, there are ample opportunities today to enhance cooperation in creating a transportation route from Tajikistan to Turkmenistan, to the Caspian coast, with access to Iran and further to the Persian Gulf, as well as to Turkey, the newspaper writes.

Another priority area of cooperation is the energy sector: the export of Turkmen electricity and natural gas to Tajikistan through the territory of Uzbekistan. Berdimuhamedov reminded that this topic had already been discussed with President Rahmon during a meeting in Ashgabat in August of last year, within the framework of the Summit of the Heads of States of Turkmenistan, Tajikistan, and Uzbekistan. Berdimuhamedov also noted that the countries cooperate in the supply of petroleum products. In this context, Turkmenistan confirmed its readiness to increase the volume of supplies depending on the needs of the Tajik side.

The interlocutors also discussed the establishment of industrial cooperation. Earlier, the Turkmen side proposed to establish contacts in the field of creating joint enterprises for cotton processing and carpet manufacturing. During the meeting, readiness was expressed to discuss the details of this issue with Tajik partners.

The Chairman of the People's Council of Turkmenistan, Gurbanguly Berdimuhamedov, arrived on an official visit to Dushanbe on April 4. Ahead of the visit, Turkmen Culture Days began in Tajikistan.
