Prospects for developing maritime transport between the two countries, as well as expanding cooperation in the transport and logistics sectors, were discussed by Azat Shanarazov, Chairman of the State Service of Maritime and River Transport of Turkmenistan, and Abdulkadir Uraloğlu, Minister of Transport and Infrastructure of Turkey, at the 5th Turkish Maritime Summit, Orient.tm reported.
The talks focused on shipping, modernizing port infrastructure, and strengthening transport links in the Caspian Basin. Abdulkadir Uraloğlu reported on the meeting's outcome on his X social media page, emphasizing Ankara's intention to continue strengthening cooperation with Ashgabat.
"We will continue to strengthen the strong friendship between Turkey and Turkmenistan through close cooperation in the maritime sector," the Turkish minister stated.
The meeting took place on the sidelines of the 5th Turkish Maritime Summit, which brought together representatives of government agencies, transport companies, and relevant organizations to discuss the development of maritime transport, port infrastructure, shipping, and international cooperation.
The talks confirm Turkmenistan and Turkey's growing interest in developing regional transport connectivity. For Ashgabat, modernizing maritime infrastructure and increasing cargo traffic through the Turkmenbashi International Seaport are an important part of its strategy to transform the country into a transit hub between Central Asia, the Caucasus, and Europe. For Turkey, cooperation with Turkmenistan fits into its commitment to developing the Middle Corridor, which is becoming increasingly important for international trade.
Experts note that in the coming years, cooperation between the two countries will likely expand beyond maritime transport. Along with developing port infrastructure and shipping, the parties can intensify cooperation in multimodal logistics, digitalization of transport services, and the implementation of joint infrastructure projects. Shared economic interests and traditionally close political relations create favorable conditions for further strengthening the Turkmen-Turkish partnership.
