Turkmenistan and Uzbekistan have switched to electronic registration of international road transport based on TIR carnet books, newshub.uz reports with reference to the press service of the Ministry of Transport of Uzbekistan.

The first international transportation under the digital transport program between the two countries has already started. The system will allow to carry out the clearance process accurately and in a short time when transporting goods across the customs border, the report says.

An electronic version of the TIR system has been introduced in Kazakhstan, Tajikistan and Kyrgyzstan earlier. The connection of Turkmenistan will be of great importance for the countries of Central Asia in applying a paperless regime in international cargo transportation.

The passage of goods across the border of the two countries will be regulated by the TIR system, which operates on the basis of the Customs Convention on the International Carriage of Goods using a TIR Carnet. This system allows to significantly simplify and speed up the customs clearance procedure.
